Barbara “Sweetie” Dudley, nee Lawrence passed away on Monday, January 13th2020 while under the care of Vitas Hospice. Her transition was peaceful and quiet.
“Sweetie” as she was affectionately called, was born on February 19, 1939, in Kingston Jamaica. She was the third child for her parents Clifford & Ruth Lawrence. In December 1959 she married Barrington Dudley and the union produced eight beautiful children.
Sweetie was well known and respected in her community. She was always an advocate for the underdog, a champion for the under-served and less fortunate, providing shelter and support for those in need.
A self-made businesswoman, she was amongst the first independent individuals who sold wholesale products to large chain stores in Jamaica.
Sweetie migrated to the United States in 1985 where she continued to be of source of strength to all those around her. She began having health issues in 2016 and eventually was called home on that fateful day, January 13, 2020.
She leaves behind children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, other family members, surrogate family and dear friends.
She is and will forever be in our hearts.
