Our good Lord and Savior received one of his children, Elizabeth (Beth) Lillian Medved, on March 03, 2021. She fought hard to overcome the covid virus, but covid pneumonia won the battle. She was 96.
Beth was living in a condo in pompano beach, Florida near her daughter. She had been a resident of Annandale, VA since 1962. Beth was born in New York City to Adolph J Spohr and Florence Louise Paul Spohr on April 1, 1924. Elizabeth was one of five children - George, Steve, Catherine (all deceased) and Evelyn. She grew up in Jamaica, New York.
She married her husband Carl (Chuck) Medved in 1951 and divorced in 1978.
During her marriage, she moved to NJ, NY, Md, before finally settling down in Annandale, VA in 1962. While living in NYC, she worked at the George Ehret Brewery. While raising her family she worked part time at GC Murphy. After her divorce, she worked full time as a customer service rep at Virginia Power (now Dominion Energy) until she retired in 1991.
In her younger years, she was an avid bowler. Her bowling average was in the 160’s and she was part of a women’s team that won the Virginia State Bowling Championship. She loved playing Bingo and played several times a week, often winning the jackpot. The “Gambling Gramdma” as she was nicknamed by her grandsons, came from her frequent trips to the casino to play the slots.
Beth was active with the St. Michael’s seniors church group as well as the KC Club. She loved reading and knitting. She made beautiful afghans and would give them as gifts to family and friends.
As a long time parishioner of St. Michael’s Catholic church, Beth volunteered her services over the years at the school and at the church.
Elizabeth was always up for an adventure and she loved her holidays, especially Christmas, her friends, and her family.
Beth will be sorely missed. She was the beloved mother of William (and Denise) Medved, JoAnn and (Ted Ward) Medved; Kenneth Medved (deceased). Grandmother of Edward and Stephen Ward, Joy Medved, June Medved (deceased), and Jeremy Park. In addition, she leaves behind her sole surviving sibling, Evelyn Tereshko and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Gabriel’s in Pompano Beach, FL on Wednesday, March 10 at 11:00, with the burial immediately following at the City of Pompano Beach Cemetery. A Requiem Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Church, in Annandale, VA at a future date.
