Georgia Ella Gillyard was born on February 11, 1950 in Kingstree, South Carolina to Catherine & Reese White. She was the only sister to Richard, Robert and Joe who preceded her in death. Her brothers made their way to South Florida where Ella also joined in 1968, taking a job at Memorial Hospital in Hollywood, Florida.
At an early age, Ella found herself taking on the role of a mother and wife. She and husband, Richard Gillyard, now deceased, provided what they could for their family. Ella’s primary responsibility was taking care of the home and children. Like most of us, she felt the need to do more and turned to the church where she learned that Jesus Christ was able to give much more than she ever imagined. She spent time as a member with Bibleway Temple in Deerfield Beach, from 2002 to 2011. After facing tragedy, Ella was spiritually displaced but found solace at the 15th Street Church of Christ in Pompano Beach. She spent time getting acquainted with her new church family and decided to become a member in 2018 through baptism.
On January 31, 2021, Ella was taken to the emergency room and on February 2nd, she was informed her of positive COVID-19 test. Throughout her hospital stay, she continually acknowledged that Jesus Christ was the answer. Prior to her passing, the virus had left her system, but caused irreparable damage to her body. Despite having faith that she would recover, Ella left this earth on March 4, 2021 at 10:23 p.m.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Kathryn “Gladys” (Roy) Inmon; Allen (Felicia) Gillyard; McArthur Gillyard; Richard (Samantha) Gillyard; Elizabeth “Kizzy” Gillyard; and Wendy (Henry) Neal. Ella was blessed with 19 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren as well as a host of relatives and friends. Her sons, Cornell and Pete preceded her in death.
