Harriet "Patricia" Barr

Harriet Patricia Blackmon Barr was born on November 28, 1946, to Isaiah Blackmon, Sr. and Altamese Miller Blackmon, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Both preceded her in death.

Harriet, affectionately known to her family as Patsy, was educated in Broward County Public Schools and graduated from Dillard High School in 1964. After receiving a small scholarship, she attended Alabama Lutheran Academy and College, in Selma, Alabama during the civil unrest of the 1960s. She went on to help integrate the Fort Lauderdale Winn Dixie Grocery Store.

Harriet met and married the love of her life Chester Floyd Barr, Sr. on January 29, 1967 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. They were married for 50 years until his death in 2017. To this union, one son, Chester Floyd Barr, Jr., was born.

She loved collecting the “All God’s Children” figurines, toy Hess Trucks, all translations of the Bible and any books that would expound on the word of God. Harriet loved God and lived by the word she read every morning. She attended Mt. Herman AME Church in Ft. Lauder-dale. She went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 31, 2021.

Harriet leaves to cherish her memories: one loving son, Chester Floyd Barr, Jr. (Renee); two grandchildren whom she adored, Rashad and Taylor; two brothers, Isaiah Blackmon (Mary) and Donald Blackmon (Jacqueline); two sisters, Caroline Sallette (Julius) and Sandra Lane (George); special cousins: Gloria, Constance and Kathy Nabors; close friends: Lisa and Butch Houston, Charlotte and Stan Jackson, Richard and Arnita Picart, and Marvine Calloway; In laws, Calvin and Beverly Barr, Debra Dassau, Jerome Allen, Gloria Jackson, Nathaniel Barr, William Barr, Essie Barr, and Beatrice Barr; and a host of nieces, nephews, and former coworkers at the United States Postal
