John B Simmons, Jr.

John B. Simmons Jr., affectionately known as “Champ,” was born on June 21, 1955, in Broxton, Georgia to the late John B. Simmons Sr. and Lula Mae Wiley (George). He peacefully entered eternal rest on August 6, 2025.

John was preceded in death by his siblings Freddie Lee Simmons, Willie Birdine, and his sister Luvenia Simmons.

He graduated from South Plantation High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he received an honorable discharge.

John was a hard worker and a man of many talents, but he was especially known and respected in the community as a passionate shoemaker. He meticulously repaired worn shoes and crafted custom-made pairs with precision, care, and pride—ensuring every pair was not only functional but also a work of art. One of his favorite sayings was:

“I make shoe contact before eye contact.”

Whether cruising around town “burning up the road,” catching a Dallas Cowboys game, or working on a fresh pair of shoes, John lived life his way—stylish, smooth, and full of love. Chuck Taylor Converse, linen suits, and plaid button-down shirts were staples in his wardrobe and symbols of his effortless charm.

John’s love for his family was deep and unwavering. He leaves to cherish his memory:
