Joseph Bailey, III Obituary

JOSEPH CHARLES BAILEY, III;  88, of Fort Lauderdale and formerly Fort Washington died May 20, 2024. He was born November 16, 1935 in Philadelphia to Joseph Charles, Jr. and Lucille (Reale) Bailey. He was an only child, raised in a multi-generational home with his parents and grandparents, Felice and Anna, Italian and Russian immigrants. Joe was a talented artist.

As a young child he took public transportation by himself to the Philadelphia Museum of Art for art classes. Joe graduated from Central High School, class of 1954. Though he won a full scholarship to the Moore College of Art, his parents wanted him to get a degree for a career. He graduated from Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1957.

Joe joined Westinghouse's electronics sales executive program, which took the young family to Buffalo, Boston, Minneapolis and to headquarters near Pittsburgh. Days after arriving in Pittsburgh, Joe and his wife were in a terrible car accident which forever altered Joe's voice and life with a severed vocal cord and 3 months in intensive care. Joe relocated the family to Philadelphia to be close to their aging parents, continuing his career as a Sales Executive in the semiconductor electronics industry.

Joe spent many great summers with his family at Delancey Place beach in Ocean City. He enjoyed fishing and whittling wood carvings on the beach. Joe moved to Ft Lauderdale in 1991, where he remained till his passing. He is survived by his 3 children, Joe (Beth) Bailey, Mary Beth Dittrich, John "Chip" (Eva) Bailey, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
