Robert Ulysses Dunning, affectionately known as “Little Robert,” passed away on May 10, 2025, at the age of 44 in his hometown of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His departure leaves a deep ache in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Born on June 12, 1980, in Fort Lauderdale, Robert was the beloved son of Gail Beatrice Dunning and Ulac Dunning. From an early age, his vibrant personality, sharp wit, and joyful spirit lit up every room he entered. His connection to his parents, especially his mother, was profound — often calling her “Truly” as his special way of saying “I love you.”
Robert was the proud and loving father of five children: Robert Ulysses Dunning Jr., Ka'Darious Robert Dunning, Raquel Mahogany Batchelor, Jade Estella Dunning, and Timmiya Sanchez. Though he was not married, his children were the center of his life, and he loved each of them deeply and uniquely. His son, Robert Jr., shares his life with Rachael Simpson, and together they carry on Robert’s legacy with strength and love. Robert was also a proud grandfather — Ka'Darious is the father of Ke’Ondre Crawford, continuing the Dunning legacy into a new generation.
Robert was the youngest sibling, a devoted brother to his older sister, Sandra Bellringer, and older brother, Ulysses Dunning Jr. Their bond, built on love and shared memories, remained strong throughout his life.
Professionally, Robert worked as a home health aide and maintenance man — roles that reflected both his strong work ethic and compassionate heart. He was known for his reliability and for always stepping up when someone needed help, no matter how big or small the task.
An athlete in his younger years, Robert played football for the Western Tigers and later at Stranahan High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories. His love for the game and his team spirit remained part of him long after his playing days ended.
Robert was surrounded by a loyal and deeply supportive group of friends who remained close through the years. He shared an unshakable bond with his cousins and extended family. His playful greeting of “Hey Booboo” to his girl cousins was one of many heartfelt traditions that defined his warm and joyful presence.
Those who knew Robert will remember his love of dancing, his laughter, and his boundless affection for others. He lived with heart — full of joy, humor, and authenticity — and he gave of himself without hesitation.
Robert’s memory will be cherished always by his children, grandson, parents, siblings, family, and the many friends and neighbors whose lives he touched. His legacy is one of love, community, and unwavering spirit.
