Sandra A. Burns was born on December 6, 1964, on the beautiful island of Trinidad and Tobago to the late Eulalee Smith and the late Samuel Neverson. At the age five, Sandra moved to Jamaica, West Indies where she lived with her grandparents the late Myrtle and Edward Smith. She later moved to Brooklyn, New York then in her teenage years moved to Miami, FL where she graduated from Norland Senior High School. She passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
For nearly 30 years, Sandra devoted her career to nursing, caring for others with compassion, skill, and unwavering dedication. Her work touched countless lives, and her gentle spirit made her a comfort to those in need.
Sandra was a devoted wife to her husband, Quentin Burns, and a loving mother to her children—David Neverson, Lakara Neverson, Sean Smikle, and Andrew Smikle—as well as a cherished bonus mother to Destini Burns. She also shared a deep bond with her siblings: Yvonne Alfred (Kenrick), Norma Neverson, the late Sharon Bonds (George), and Cheryl Singh. Her life was further enriched by a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who loved her dearly.
Sandra was known for her kindness, generosity, and her deep, unshakable faith. She gave without expecting anything in return, encouraged others with her words and
actions, and faced life’s challenges with quiet strength. Whether she was caring for a patient, cooking for her family, or simply listening to someone who needed a friend, she poured her love into everything she did.
Her legacy is one of service, love, and devotion. She leaves behind a life that taught others to be compassionate, to give generously, and to stand firmly in faith.
