Born on December 3, 1938 in Garland, Arkansas, our beloved Mother Stella Johnson fulfilled GOD’s purpose in life and ended this earthly journey at Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee, Florida on Saturday August 1, 2020 at 3:53 P.M.
Stella was born to the late Nelson and Minnie Coleman and reared in a loving home with her identical twin sister and eleven other siblings. She was educated in the public school system of Emmett, Arkansas. During her young adult years, she moved to West Palm Beach, Florida. For over thirty years, she was employed in the home of the late Attorney Elwyn and Annie Middleton.
In the late 1960’s, Stella was converted, baptized and joined Pentecostal Church of God in Christ – Riviera Beach where she served as a dedicated Usher, Missionary and member of the Mother’s Board. She served GOD and the Pentecostal church family faithfully. In 1992 with the invitation from Attorney John Middleton and family, Stella moved to Melrose, Florida. While there she attended Supreme Church of God. Stella was truly an ambassador for CHRIST and often urged others to be reconciled to GOD. During her daily life, even until her last months, she was not ashamed of witnessing about GOD’s power, mercy and love.
Stella was affectionately known as “Mom” to fourteen – four to whom she gave birth: Dennis Coleman, West Palm Beach, FL, the late Charles Johnson, Arthur Johnson, Riviera Beach, FL, Alesia Carroll (Kent Sr.), Tallahassee, FL; five to whom she adopted: the late Vivian Ann Thomas, the late Edward Coleman, Shirley McMurray (Kenneth Sr.), Evans, GA, the late Lee Coleman, Annie “Cookie” Coleman, West Palm Beach, FL; five to whom she assumed the role: Adella McCloyn (Anthony), Savannah, GA, Dewayne Logan, Atlanta, GA, the late Charles Logan, Sandra Logan, Riviera Beach, FL, Donald Logan, Jupiter FL.
Stella was known as “Sister” to twelve – Corrine Willis, Osceola, AR, Bennie Coleman (Shirley), Osceola, AR, Roosevelt Coleman, (the late Geraldine), Salt Lake City, Utah, preceded in death by Nelson Coleman, Jr., Gus Coleman, Daniel Coleman (the late Jewelean), Willard Coleman, James Coleman (Nettie), Marshall Coleman, Ella Logan (twin), Tina Coleman, and Robert Coleman (Rosemary).
Stella also will be remembered and loved by: a devoted cousin Pinkie Mae Clicks (Joseph), Osceola, AR; 38 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends: Lula Bell Shelton, Faye Callaway Parrish, Kathy Ward, and Andrew Thompson. Preceding her in death were a devoted uncle, Marshall Williams Jr. and two cherished friends, Mother Annie Hamilton and Mother Barbara Mongo.
